It sounds like Lola is experiencing some gastrointestinal distress, which can be concerning, especially with the presence of blood in her stool. This could be due to a variety of reasons, such as dietary indiscretion, infections, parasites, or even stress.
To help Lola at home, you might consider a few steps. First, you can manage her diet by temporarily withholding food for 12 to 24 hours. This allows her digestive system to rest, but make sure she has plenty of fresh water available to prevent dehydration. After this fasting period, you can introduce a bland diet, such as boiled chicken and rice, in small, frequent meals. Once her stools start to firm up, gradually reintroduce her regular food over a few days.
It's also important to monitor her hydration. You can do this by gently lifting the skin on the back of her neck; if it doesn't snap back quickly, she might be dehydrated, which requires immediate attention. Additionally, keep an eye out for other symptoms like vomiting, lethargy, or a decrease in appetite, as these could indicate a more serious issue.
Since Lola has had diarrhea with blood for a day and it's ongoing, close monitoring is crucial. If the diarrhea persists beyond 24 hours, or if you notice signs of dehydration or other concerning symptoms, it would be wise to seek veterinary care. Blood in the stool, especially if it's more than just a few drops, can be a sign of a more serious condition that needs professional evaluation.
