My dog became lethargic, lost appetite but ate a little, drank a lot of water for 4 days however this 4th day she vomited all the chicken she ate this day but not the food she ate on the 3rd day. Her vomit is also kinda yellow we gave her dextrose power after she vomited and she is willing to drink the dextrose power that we melt on water
Is it still possible that she has a parvovirus?
We don't have any money so i hope you can tell us what to do and some home remedies
I'm sorry to hear that your dog is experiencing these symptoms. Vomiting, especially when combined with lethargy and a loss of appetite, can indeed be concerning. The yellow color of the vomit often indicates bile, which can occur when a dog vomits on an empty stomach or is experiencing gastrointestinal upset.
While parvovirus is a serious condition, it typically presents with severe vomiting, diarrhea (often bloody), and rapid dehydration. Since your dog is not vaccinated, it's important to consider this possibility, but the absence of bloody diarrhea is somewhat reassuring. However, there are other potential causes for these symptoms, such as gastritis, pancreatitis, or a blockage.
Here are some steps you can take at home to help your dog:
First, it's great that your dog is willing to drink water with dextrose. Keeping her hydrated is crucial, so continue offering small amounts of this solution frequently. Regarding her diet, you might want to withhold food for 12-24 hours to allow her stomach to settle. After this period, you can try offering small amounts of bland food like boiled chicken (without skin or bones) and rice. If she keeps this down, you can gradually reintroduce her regular diet.
It's important to monitor her condition closely. If she continues to vomit, becomes more lethargic, or shows any new symptoms like diarrhea, it may indicate a more serious issue. Make sure she has a quiet, comfortable place to rest and recover.
While these steps can help manage mild cases, if her condition doesn't improve or worsens, seeking veterinary care is essential. Some clinics offer payment plans or assistance programs, so it might be worth reaching out to local veterinarians to see if they can provide any support.
