Sally is an abandoned stray. She is about 5 weeks old I would say. She is very small. I have a momma cat but she is no longer producing milk. The kitten is only wanting to suckle to her. I have tried a bottle, spoon feeding, putting milk on a plate and bowl, I have tried soft food and hard food, even putting milk supplements in hard food and she will not eat I have had her for almost 2 days. She hasn't eaten hardly anything and hasn't pooped but one time when I found her Saturday
At around 5 weeks old, kittens are generally transitioning from their mother's milk to more solid foods, but this process can be difficult, particularly if they are stressed or unwell.
First, ensure that Sally is warm and comfortable. A warm environment can often help stimulate a kitten's appetite. You might consider using a heating pad set on low, wrapped in a towel, to provide her with some extra warmth.
Since she isn't taking to the bottle, you could try using a syringe (without the needle) to feed her kitten milk replacer. Gently squirt small amounts into her mouth, allowing her time to swallow between each squirt.
You might also try offering a high-quality wet kitten food. Warming it slightly can make it more appealing, and mixing it with a bit of kitten milk replacer can sometimes help.
Ensuring she stays hydrated is crucial. If she's not drinking water, you can offer the kitten milk replacer more frequently to keep her hydrated.
Kittens can become constipated, especially if they are not eating well.
If Sally continues to refuse food and shows no improvement, it would be best to take her to a vet. They can check for any underlying health issues and provide more specific guidance.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you for your dedication to Sally's well-being.
