This is more information regarding momma dog and the question I previously asked about her. She is also taking 500mg of the antibiotic cephalexin and also alternating acetaminophen and 800mg ibuprofen. How many times a day should she be taking the antibiotic? She just took the first dose yesterday

Cephalexin is a commonly prescribed antibiotic for dogs to treat bacterial infections. Typically, the dosage for cephalexin ranges from 10 to 15 mg per pound of body weight, administered every 8 to 12 hours. However, the exact dosage and frequency should always be determined by your veterinarian, taking into account your dog's specific condition and weight.

For an 11-month-old Treeing Walker Coonhound, a dosage of 500 mg could be appropriate, but it is crucial to adhere to your veterinarian's instructions. Generally, cephalexin is given twice a day, approximately every 12 hours, although this can vary based on the individual case.

Regarding acetaminophen and ibuprofen, these medications are generally not recommended for dogs due to their potential for toxicity and adverse effects. Acetaminophen can cause liver damage, while ibuprofen can lead to gastrointestinal ulcers and kidney damage. It is essential to consult your veterinarian before administering any of these medications to ensure they are safe and suitable for your dog.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you.
