Swelling in the eye can result from various causes, such as allergies, infections, or trauma. The fact that your pug is otherwise acting normally is a positive sign, but eye issues should always be taken seriously.

Firstly, you can gently apply a cold compress or an ice pack wrapped in a cloth to the swollen area for about 5-10 minutes, twice a day. This can help reduce inflammation.

Secondly, clean the eye area with a sterile saline solution. You can either use over-the-counter saline eye drops or make a saline solution by mixing one teaspoon of salt in a cup of boiled, then cooled, water. Use a clean cotton ball or gauze to gently wipe the eye area.

If the eye seems dry, you can use artificial tears containing hyaluronic acid to keep it moist. This can be done a few times a day.

Additionally, ensure your dog does not scratch or rub the eye, as this can worsen the condition. You might need to use an Elizabethan collar (E-collar) to prevent this.

If the swelling does not improve within a few days or if it gets worse, it’s important to seek veterinary care. Eye issues can escalate quickly and may require specific treatments like antibiotics or anti-inflammatory medications that only a veterinarian can prescribe.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you.
