She is overweight but about a week ago she began drinking excessive amounts of water and she seems sad. She isn't very active and at times her breathing is short and rapid. She has eye discharge also. She is eating and drinking and using the bathroom. It appears that either her back hips are hurting when walking or standing or they are weakened. She has no spank

It sounds like your dog is experiencing several concerning symptoms, including excessive drinking, lethargy, short and rapid breathing, eye discharge, and possible hip pain. These symptoms can be indicative of several underlying conditions, such as diabetes, kidney disease, or even a hormonal imbalance like Cushing's disease.

Given the combination of symptoms and the duration, it is important to address these issues promptly. Here are a few things you can do at home while monitoring her condition:

1. Ensure she has access to fresh water at all times, but try to monitor the amount she is drinking.
2. Keep her comfortable and limit her physical activity to avoid any additional stress on her hips.
3. Observe her eating habits and ensure she is getting a balanced diet. Avoid any sudden changes in her food.
4. Gently clean her eyes with a damp cloth to remove any discharge, but avoid using any over-the-counter eye drops unless prescribed by a vet.

However, the symptoms you described, especially the excessive drinking, lethargy, and breathing issues, are serious and warrant immediate veterinary attention. These could be signs of a potentially life-threatening condition that needs professional diagnosis and treatment.

Please take her to a veterinarian as soon as possible for a thorough examination and appropriate tests. Early intervention can make a significant difference in her health and well-being.
