It sounds like your new cat is feeling a bit overwhelmed and is seeking out quiet, hidden spots to feel safe. This is quite common for cats when they are adjusting to a new environment. Here are a few things you can do to help her feel more comfortable:
Firstly, it's a good idea to create a safe space for her. You can set up a cozy area with a bed, some toys, and a litter box in a quiet part of your home. This will give her a designated space where she can retreat and feel secure.
It's also important to give her time to adjust. Allow her to explore at her own pace, as it might take a few days or even weeks for her to fully settle into her new surroundings.
Consider using calming aids, such as pheromone diffusers or sprays, which can help reduce her stress and make her feel more at ease.
Encouraging interaction is another helpful step. Spend time sitting quietly in the room with her, talking softly or reading aloud. This will help her get used to your presence without feeling pressured to interact.
Providing hiding spots can also make her feel safer. You can use cardboard boxes or cat tunnels to give her more options for places to hide.
Lastly, monitor her behavior closely. Keep an eye on her eating, drinking, and litter box habits. If she continues to hide excessively or shows signs of stress, such as not eating or using the litter box, you might want to consult a veterinarian for further advice.
It's great that she's already exploring a bit and finding new spots to rest. With patience and gentle encouragement, she'll likely become more comfortable and confident in her new home. If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you.
