The symptoms you're describing sound like they could be related to a condition known as reverse sneezing, which is common in dogs and can cause them to make snorting or honking noises. However, the fact that your dog stops breathing for a period of time is concerning and could indicate a more serious issue such as a seizure or a respiratory problem.

Briefly covering your dog's nostrils can encourage them to swallow, which might help clear the irritation causing the reverse sneezing.

Given the severity of the symptoms, especially the cessation of breathing, I strongly recommend that you consult with a veterinarian as soon as possible. They can perform a thorough examination and may suggest diagnostic tests such as blood work, x-rays, or even a referral to a specialist if needed.
