my boyfriend brought our dog outside while i was sleeping and i woke up and her eye looked like this. it looks like her tear duct is swollen? she has never had any history of allergic reactions so i was thinking she may have poked herself? im not sure. he didnt see her do anything unusual. shes a very healthy dog. shes tired right now and is sleeping but she doesnt seem to be lethargic per say, (yet?) this only happened an hour ago. i added 2 pictures, one is what her eye normally looks like, and the other is the swollen one.
It sounds like your dog's swollen eye could be due to a few different factors, such as an injury, an allergic reaction, or an infection. Given that she was outside, she might have accidentally poked her eye on something or encountered an irritant.
In the meantime, it's important to keep her eye clean. You can gently flush the eye with a sterile saline solution or over-the-counter eye drops to help reduce any irritation or remove debris that might be causing the swelling.
Next, applying a cold compress to the swollen area can be beneficial. This can help reduce both swelling and inflammation. Just be sure to wrap the compress in a towel or cloth to prevent direct contact with her skin.
Additionally, monitor her for any other symptoms. Watch for increased redness, discharge, or if she starts rubbing the eye excessively. These could be signs that the issue is more serious.
If the swelling doesn't improve within a few hours, worsens, or if you notice any other concerning symptoms, it's crucial to have her checked by a veterinarian.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you.
