I left him at home alone for approximately 4 hours yesterday late afternoon. No foreseen issues at that time. When I arrived home, his (L) eye was closed, and Chewitt was only showing irritation, by using his (L) paw to rub his (L) eye with. I used a little Saline to rinse out his eye, only to elevate Chewitt's irritation with his eye.
Now currently throughout the evening into the morning hours, he would wake to relocate where he was resting. His (L) eye is now currently more swollen than it had been the previous evening.
It sounds like Chewitt is experiencing significant discomfort with his left eye. The symptoms could be due to a few different issues, such as a foreign object in the eye, an injury, an infection, or even an allergic reaction.
Since you've already tried rinsing the eye with saline and the swelling has worsened, it's important to monitor the situation closely.
First, try to prevent Chewitt from rubbing his eye as much as possible. Using an Elizabethan collar (cone) can help with this if you have one available.
Next, you can apply a cold compress gently to the swollen area to help reduce the swelling. Use a clean cloth and make sure it's not too cold to avoid causing discomfort.
Additionally, continue to gently clean the eye with saline solution if you notice any discharge. Be very gentle to avoid causing further irritation.
It's also important to keep an eye out for any additional symptoms such as discharge, redness, or if Chewitt starts to show signs of pain like whining or avoiding touch.
Given that the swelling has increased and the eye is still closed, it would be best to have a veterinarian examine Chewitt as soon as possible. Eye issues can escalate quickly and may require specific treatments like antibiotics or anti-inflammatory medications that only a vet can provide.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you.
