Lemon is a baby cockatiel. they flew into the wall about 3 times and there was blood between the nose, i cleaned it up and the bleeding has stopped. I'm worried because they are now extremely scared of me, won't come out of cage, fluffed up, and whenever they climb up the side of the cage they swing their head back and forth (they have never done this before.
I'm really sorry to hear about Lemon's situation. The symptoms you're describing—such as fluffing up, head tilting, and appearing scared—are indeed concerning, especially after the incident of flying into the wall and the subsequent nosebleed.
Firstly, the impact from flying into the wall could have caused head trauma or injury. This type of trauma can lead to neurological symptoms, including head tilting and abnormal behavior. Secondly, the recent move and the traumatic incident could have caused significant stress, which might explain why Lemon is fluffed up and scared. Lastly, the bleeding from the nose could indicate an underlying infection or inflammation that might be affecting Lemon's behavior.
Given the severity of these symptoms and the potential for serious underlying issues, it's crucial to have Lemon examined by a veterinarian as soon as possible. Head trauma and neurological symptoms can be serious and require professional evaluation and treatment.
You can also cover part of the cage with a light cloth to create a sense of security, but ensure there is still enough ventilation.
Monitor Lemon closely for any changes in behavior, eating, or drinking habits. If you notice any worsening of symptoms or additional signs such as difficulty breathing, lethargy, or more bleeding, seek emergency veterinary care immediately.
If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Thank you.
