Behavior

We took him to the vet about a week ago because he was limping. The vet didn’t find anything on the xray to indicate a sprain or break. The gave him some pain meds for 5 days and sent us home. Shifu has finished the dose of medication but is hiding under the bed and only comes out to eat. He has ventured out into the hallway and bathroom but only for a few seconds and turns right back around to the bed.

It's completely understandable to be concerned when you notice changes in Shifu's behavior, especially after an injury. Hiding can often indicate that he is still in pain or feeling stressed. Here are a few steps you might consider:

Firstly, even though the x-ray didn't reveal any breaks or sprains, soft tissue injuries can still cause significant discomfort. Since Shifu has completed his pain medication, he might still be experiencing some residual pain. It would be a good idea to discuss with your vet the possibility of extending or adjusting his pain management plan.

Secondly, ensure that Shifu has a comfortable and quiet place to rest. Cats often hide when they feel vulnerable, so providing a cozy, safe space can help him feel more secure.

Additionally, keep an eye out for any other signs of discomfort or illness, such as changes in his appetite, grooming habits, or litter box use. If you notice anything unusual, it might be worth scheduling another visit to the vet.

You can also gently encourage Shifu to come out and interact by using his favorite toys or treats. However, it's important not to force him if he seems reluctant. Allow him to come out at his own pace.

Lastly, enriching his environment with new toys, scratching posts, or even a window perch can sometimes help distract him and encourage movement.

If Shifu's behavior doesn't improve or if you notice any worsening symptoms, it would be best to consult with your veterinarian again. They might want to conduct a more thorough examination or consider other underlying issues.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you.
