Diarrhea
Loss of appetite

Diarrhea started a week ago today. I’ve been giving him soft food with a little pumpkin in it, he’s eating that okay but not his hard food very much at all. I don’t believe he’s gotten into anything, I’m usually very careful about making sure nothing like that can happen. His diarrhea went from 3-4 times a day to 1-2. Is there anything else I can do from home to help him? Should I still be worried? He doesn’t act too different. I’m at a loss.

Diarrhea in cats can stem from various factors, including dietary changes, stress, infections, or underlying health issues. Since the frequency of diarrhea has decreased, it seems like the pumpkin might be helping, which is encouraging.

First, ensure Miles stays well-hydrated. Diarrhea can lead to dehydration, so it's crucial to provide him with access to fresh water at all times. Change the water frequently, and place the water in several places.

Next, continue with the soft food and pumpkin for now, as it seems to be beneficial.

And you might want to fast him for the next 12 hours and gradually re-introduce him with a bland(boiled chicken, rice) or a low-fat diet. Low fat is crucial as high fat provokes stomach acid which can induce diarrhea.

If there is no improvement or if his condition worsens, a visit to the veterinarian would be necessary to rule out any underlying issues and to get appropriate treatment.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you.
