Hair loss

My cat’s fur has been falling ALOT I know people will say it’s normal but it not for me. I’ve had her for almost 3-4 years and it now happing so it’s odd. This has been happening almost 2 weeks ago and at first I thought It was maybe because I haven’t showered her so I did, right when she got dry I just ran my fingers thru her and lots of her fur came out, endless fur.( I also accidentally showered her with expired cat shampoo 😬 I don’t know if that also cause it to get worse???)

There are several potential causes for this issue, including stress, allergies, skin infections, parasites, hormonal imbalances, or more systemic diseases.

Given that the hair loss is widespread, affecting various parts of the body, and considering the age of your cat, it's possible that there may be an underlying medical condition that needs to be addressed. The use of expired shampoo may have irritated the skin, but it's unlikely to be the sole cause of the hair loss if it's as extensive as you describe.

If your cat is not already on a flea and tick prevention program, consider starting one, as parasites can cause hair loss and skin issues. And it's important to ensure that any product you use is not expired and is specifically formulated for cats.

Switch to a new, high-quality cat shampoo designed to reduce shedding and soothe the skin. Regular grooming with a proper brush can help remove loose fur and reduce shedding. This also helps in checking for any skin abnormalities or parasites.

Watch for signs of skin infection, such as redness, swelling, or discharge, and for any changes in behavior, such as increased scratching, biting, or licking of the affected areas. These could indicate a more serious condition that requires immediate attention.
