Given your cat's symptoms of eye redness, swelling, and tearing, there are several steps you can take at home to help alleviate their discomfort until you can see a veterinarian.

First, gently clean the affected eye using a sterile saline solution. You can do this by soaking a clean cotton ball or gauze pad in the solution and carefully wiping away any discharge. Be sure to wash your hands thoroughly before touching your cat's eye area to prevent introducing any additional irritants or bacteria.

If your cat is scratching at the eye, it might be helpful to use an e-collar, commonly known as a cone, to prevent further irritation or injury. This can help protect the eye while it heals.

You can also use over-the-counter artificial tears that contain hyaluronic acid to keep the eye moist and provide some relief. However, avoid any products that contain preservatives or medications unless they have been specifically prescribed by your veterinarian.

It's important to monitor your cat's symptoms closely. If you notice that the symptoms worsen or do not improve within a few days, it is essential to seek veterinary care. The symptoms could be due to various issues such as conjunctivitis, allergies, or even a viral infection. A veterinarian will be able to perform the necessary tests to determine the exact cause and prescribe the appropriate treatment.
