Eye
Rubbing
Redness
Discharge
Swelling

Started pawing at his eyes and noticed a bit ago they were shut from mucus. I did clean with a cloth and warm water and applied tobramycin. His other eye looks ok but this one no. He was outside for awhile with no visual concerns.

It sounds like your Shih Tzu is experiencing significant eye discomfort, which can indeed be quite concerning. The symptoms you've described—rubbing, redness, discharge, and swelling—could indicate an infection, irritation, or even a foreign object in the eye.

You've done a good job by cleaning the eye with a cloth and warm water and applying tobramycin, an antibiotic. However, given the severity of the symptoms and the fact that the eye was shut from mucus, it would be best to have a veterinarian examine your dog as soon as possible. Eye issues can escalate quickly and may require specific treatments that only a vet can provide.

In the meantime, continue to gently clean the discharge with a warm saline solution or an over-the-counter ophthalmic wash. Be sure to avoid using cloths or tissues that might cause further irritation. Also, try to prevent your dog from pawing at the eye, as this can worsen the condition.

If you notice any worsening of symptoms, such as increased swelling, more discharge, or if your dog seems to be in significant pain, please seek veterinary care immediately.

And has Bambi's condition improved?
