Sorry if it looks nasty, he’s been vomiting on this pad, it’s been about 8 times. Yesterday he was fine but this morning I woke up to the sound of him vomiting so i quickly moved him over here. He hasn’t vomited this much since we got him, it’s been about 2 months since the last time he did. I read that it could be because of high fatty foods low fiber intake, should I give him some boiled carrots now or wait 30 minutes for him to calm down? There’s also like this fur in two of the vomit pools, could that be why? He seemed to calm down now, I just want to know what I can do for him.
I'm sorry to hear that your Shih Tzu is experiencing this. Vomiting yellow bile can be due to various reasons, including dietary indiscretion, gastrointestinal upset, or even hair ingestion, which seems to be a possibility given the fur you mentioned in the vomit.
Since your dog has vomited multiple times in a short period, it's important to take some immediate steps:
First, allow your dog’s stomach to settle by withholding food and water for a few hours. This can help reduce further vomiting. After a few hours, offer small amounts of water. If your dog keeps the water down, you can gradually reintroduce bland food like boiled chicken and rice or plain boiled carrots. Avoid fatty foods as they can exacerbate the issue.
Additionally, keep an eye on your dog for any additional symptoms such as lethargy, diarrhea, or changes in behavior. The presence of fur in the vomit suggests that hair ingestion might be contributing to the vomiting. Regular grooming can help reduce the amount of hair your dog ingests.
Given the frequency and the fact that this has been ongoing for a day, I strongly recommend taking your dog to the veterinarian as soon as possible. They can perform a thorough examination and possibly run some tests to determine the underlying cause and provide appropriate treatment.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you.
