Diarrhea

he had pancreatitis briefly, but he’s been on a special food for it. he tends to get into stuff he’s not supposed to eat, so i figured he might’ve eaten something that he shouldn’t have when i wasn’t home

It sounds like your cat recently experienced an episode of diarrhea with bloody or black stool, which can indeed be concerning. Given his history of pancreatitis and his tendency to eat things he shouldn't, it's possible that he ingested something that upset his digestive system.

To help him at home, there are a few steps you can take:

Firstly, it's crucial to manage his diet carefully. Since he is on a special diet for pancreatitis, make sure he adheres to it strictly. Avoid giving him any treats or table scraps that might irritate his stomach.

Secondly, ensure he has access to plenty of fresh water. Diarrhea can lead to dehydration, so keeping him well-hydrated is very important.

Next, monitor his stool and overall behavior closely. If the diarrhea returns or if you notice any other symptoms such as vomiting, lethargy, or loss of appetite, it could indicate a more serious issue.

Additionally, try to prevent him from accessing inappropriate foods. Cat-proof your home by securing trash cans, keeping food out of reach, and being mindful of any plants or substances that could be harmful to him.

Since the episode was brief and is not ongoing, it might have been a one-time issue. However, if you notice any recurrence or other concerning symptoms, it would be best to consult with your veterinarian to rule out any serious underlying conditions.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you.
