Okay so Leia so this morning Leia didn’t want to eat her food I noticed the day before but i didn’t make a deal about it cause she seemed really thirsty then hungry so it was okay but today she drank water but wanted none of her dry kibble so after a little I added some wet food she ONLY ATE the wet food but again drank all her water. Tonight when I got home I fed her again mixing her dry with wet food she didn’t want it all but she drank water so i tired giving her treats and she ate some but not others I ended up giving her just wet food and she ate it all like she was really hungry she’s but she’s acting tired and down and not her normal happy goofy self today but if I give table snacks to see if she wants she takes them so I’m confused she’s asleep next to me on the floor now seems to be breathing hard in her sleep
It sounds like Leia is experiencing some changes in her eating habits and energy levels, which can indeed be concerning. There are several potential reasons for this behavior, and it's important to consider each one carefully.
Firstly, dogs can sometimes develop a preference for wet food over dry kibble because they find it more palatable. However, a sudden change in eating habits might also indicate an underlying issue. Increased water intake could be a sign of dehydration or other health concerns such as kidney problems or diabetes. Additionally, if Leia is feeling unwell, she might avoid her usual food due to gastrointestinal discomfort. Dental problems can also make chewing dry kibble uncomfortable, leading to a preference for softer foods. Lastly, the lethargy and heavy breathing you mentioned could indicate that she’s not feeling well overall, which could be due to a variety of reasons ranging from mild to more serious conditions.
First, ensure she continues to drink water, as dehydration can be serious. Keep an eye on her water intake. And continue offering wet food if she prefers it, but try to gradually mix in some of her regular kibble to maintain a balanced diet.
Given her lethargy and heavy breathing, it’s important to keep a close eye on her. If her condition doesn’t improve or if she shows any additional symptoms, it would be best to take her to a vet as soon as possible.
