i started noticing it in and around his ears first. very red and flakey and then they started turning black. i got some ear rinse and it’s definitely been helping but now his ears are very raw and moist like. i just noticed his anal and underbelly area started turning black and flakey about 3 days ago and now under his armpits. he is on flea medicine but still has a good bit still on him. we’ve also been noticing he’s been getting eye boogers every morning when we wake up. i attached a picture of his anal area which seems to be the worse place.

The symptoms can be caused by a variety of factors including allergies, infections (bacterial, fungal, or parasitic), or even underlying systemic issues.

Given that the ear rinse has helped somewhat but the ears are now raw and moist, it’s possible that there might be a secondary infection due to the constant scratching and irritation. The black and flaky skin spreading to other areas like the anal region, underbelly, and armpits is concerning and suggests that the issue is progressing.

First, keep the affected areas clean and dry. Gently clean the raw and moist areas with a mild antiseptic solution and make sure to dry them thoroughly. Next, prevent further scratching by using an Elizabethan collar (cone) to stop river from scratching and licking the affected areas, which can worsen the condition.

For the eye discharge, gently clean his eyes with a damp, warm cloth each morning.

The raw and moist ears, combined with the spreading black and flaky skin, could indicate a serious underlying issue that needs specific treatment.

I recommend scheduling an appointment with your veterinarian as soon as possible. They can perform a thorough examination, possibly including skin scrapings or biopsies, to determine the exact cause and provide appropriate treatment, which may include antibiotics, antifungals, or other medications.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you.
