Behavior

My cat recently just got shots two or three days ago and when he first got his shots, we were talking to the vet and they were saying symptoms are the lack of eating and sleepiness, but she said it would’ve worn off for 24 hours. It’s been two days, he still not eating his food. I tried giving him just his kibble and he ate it but he isn’t eating his wet food

It's not uncommon for cats to experience some side effects after vaccinations, such as a temporary loss of appetite or lethargy. These symptoms usually resolve within 24 to 48 hours, but since your cat's appetite hasn't fully returned to normal, it's understandable to be concerned.

There are a few things you can try at home to encourage your cat to eat:

First, you might want to warm up the food. Sometimes, heating wet food slightly can enhance its aroma, making it more appealing to your cat. Additionally, offering different flavors of wet food could be beneficial, as cats can be quite picky and may simply not like a particular variety.

Since your cat is eating kibble, you could try mixing a small amount of wet food with the kibble to see if that encourages eating. Hand feeding is another option; sometimes offering small amounts of wet food from your hand can stimulate your cat's appetite.

It's also important to ensure your cat is staying hydrated. If he's not eating wet food, he might not be getting enough moisture, so make sure he has access to fresh water.

Monitor your cat closely for any other symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, or significant lethargy. If your cat's appetite doesn't improve in the next day or two, or if you notice any other concerning symptoms, it would be best to consult your veterinarian for further evaluation.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you.
