We changed laundry detergent about 2 weeks ago and I’m now noticing some sores on my dog and bumps, she’s been scratching her skin and licking and biting her paws

Given that you recently changed laundry detergent, it's possible that hazel is having an allergic reaction to the new detergent. Allergies can often manifest in dogs through skin issues such as itching, redness, and sores.

Firstly, if you suspect the new laundry detergent is the cause, switch back to the old one or opt for a hypoallergenic detergent. Make sure to wash her bedding and any fabrics she frequently comes into contact with.

Next, consider giving her a bath with a gentle, hypoallergenic dog shampoo. This can help remove any residual allergens from her skin and coat. It's important to avoid using human shampoos, as they can be too harsh for her skin.

For topical relief, you can apply a soothing ointment or cream specifically designed for dogs to the affected areas. Aloe vera gel or coconut oil can also be soothing and help reduce itching while promoting healing.

Additionally, try to prevent her from licking and scratching the affected areas as much as possible. You might consider using an Elizabethan collar (cone) to prevent her from causing further irritation.

If her symptoms persist or worsen despite these measures, it would be best to take her to a veterinarian. They can perform a thorough examination and may recommend allergy testing or prescribe medications to provide relief and address any underlying issues.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you.
