It sounds like your rabbit is experiencing some discomfort with his eye, which can be concerning. Redness, puffiness, and excessive itching around the eye can be attributed to several factors. For instance, environmental allergens such as dust, pollen, or certain bedding materials might be causing irritation. Additionally, bacterial or fungal infections can lead to redness and swelling. It’s also possible that a small foreign object, like a piece of hay or dust, is irritating his eye, or he might have scratched or injured it while grooming or playing.

Gently clean around the eye with a damp, soft cloth to remove any discharge. If you suspect a foreign object, you can use saline solution (the same kind used for contact lenses) to rinse the eye. It’s important to monitor the redness and swelling closely. If it worsens or if he starts showing other symptoms such as lethargy or loss of appetite, seeking veterinary care is crucial.
