Mabel showed up at my doorstep yesterday morning and her eyes have had the third eyelid showing most of the time since. She was at a house next door about 2 months ago and that is why i know it’s not a recent issue because i can see them in the picture also. She walked right in the door and is super friendly but stays in the bathroom for the most part because of my other animals in the house.

When a cat's third eyelid becomes visible, it can indicate a range of issues, such as irritation, infection, or even a systemic illness. Since Mabel has been experiencing this for a couple of months, it's important to consider several possibilities.

Firstly, the presence of discharge and the visibility of the third eyelid might suggest an eye infection or irritation. This could be caused by bacteria, viruses, or environmental irritants. Additionally, dehydration or a general feeling of unwellness can sometimes make the third eyelid more prominent. It's also worth considering that internal parasites might lead to systemic issues that manifest in the eyes.

For home care, you can gently clean around Mabel's eyes using a damp, warm cloth to remove any discharge. Make sure she has access to fresh water and a comfortable environment. However, given the duration of her symptoms and the presence of discharge, it would be prudent to have her examined by a veterinarian. They can conduct a thorough examination and possibly run some tests to identify the underlying cause and recommend appropriate treatment.
