Good morning! LJ’s itching is just out of control. I tried the hydroxyzine and it provided her absolutely no relief. The hydrolyzed diet doesn’t seem like it’s going to work. I want to try a limited ingredient diet. I found Natural Balance duck and green pea. My question is, she’s had duck before in the past-like maybe 5 times…Is it okay to try that diet? She refuses to eat rabbit. It just seems to me that she’s not likely to be allergic to duck.

Good morning! I'm sorry to hear that LJ's itching is causing so much distress. The hydroxyzine you said you were prescribed last year didn't work, so it's possible that the cause is different than it was then. Given that hydroxyzine and the hydrolyzed diet haven't provided relief, trying a limited ingredient diet could be a good next step.

The Natural Balance duck and green pea formula you mentioned could be worth trying, even though LJ has had duck a few times in the past. However, keep in mind that food allergies can develop over time, so monitor her closely for any signs of improvement or worsening.

In addition to the diet change, ensure she's up to date with flea and tick prevention, as these are common causes of itching. And use a hypoallergenic shampoo designed for cats to soothe her skin. Bathing should be done gently and infrequently to avoid drying out her skin further.

Since the symptoms are persistent, consider taking her to the vet to determine the exact condition and cause.

If you have any further questions please ask us. Thank you.
