Sky got into some chocolate chip cookies we gave her 3% hydrogen peroxide .7 mL per body weight 10 pounds she has not vomited but did have diarrhea. We checked on her throughout the night and she seemed fine. It has been over six hours.
I'm glad to hear that Sky seems to be doing well after the incident. Chocolate can indeed be toxic to dogs, so it's excellent that you acted quickly by administering hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting. Although she didn't vomit and has experienced diarrhea, it's crucial to monitor her closely for any additional symptoms.
Diarrhea could be a result of either the chocolate ingestion or the hydrogen peroxide. Here are some steps you can take to help her recover:
First, ensure she has access to plenty of fresh water to prevent dehydration caused by the diarrhea. Keeping her hydrated is essential.
Next, offer her a bland diet for the next 24 to 48 hours. Boiled chicken and rice are usually well-tolerated and can help settle her stomach.
Additionally, keep a close eye on her for any signs of chocolate toxicity. Symptoms to watch for include restlessness, an increased heart rate, tremors, or seizures. If you notice any of these symptoms, seek veterinary care immediately.
Lastly, allow her to rest and avoid any strenuous activities to help her recover.
Since it's been over six hours and she seems fine, that's a positive sign. However, if the diarrhea persists for more than a day or if she shows any other concerning symptoms, it would be wise to consult with a veterinarian.
If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Thank you.
