It sounds like your cat is experiencing several issues that might be interconnected, such as a lack of appetite, grooming, and activity, along with the presence of fleas and possible constipation. These can indeed be concerning, but there are steps you can take at home to help your cat feel better.
First, addressing the flea problem is crucial since fleas can cause significant discomfort and lead to other health complications. You might want to start by using a flea comb to manually remove fleas and consider applying a flea treatment specifically designed for cats. Be sure to select a product that is appropriate for your cat's age and weight to ensure safety.
To encourage your cat to eat, you could try offering some highly palatable foods, such as wet cat food or small portions of cooked chicken or fish. Sometimes, warming the food slightly can make it more enticing for your cat.
Hydration is also important, so make sure your cat is drinking enough water. You can promote hydration by providing fresh water regularly or offering wet food, which naturally contains more moisture.
If you suspect constipation, adding a small amount of canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) to your cat's diet might help, as it is high in fiber and can aid in bowel movements. However, if the constipation persists, it would be best to seek veterinary attention.
Keep a close watch on your cat's behavior over the next day or two. If he remains lethargic, continues to refuse food, or shows signs of discomfort, consulting a veterinarian would be a wise decision.
Given that your cat's age is uncertain, it's also important to ensure he is up to date with vaccinations and flea prevention to help avoid future health issues.
