It's completely understandable to be very concerned about Smokey, especially considering his age and the significant weight loss you've observed. There are a few potential reasons for this sudden change that we should consider:

Firstly, introducing a new kitten can be quite stressful for an older cat like Smokey. Stress can lead to a decrease in appetite and subsequent weight loss. Additionally, at 14 years old, Smokey is considered a senior cat, and weight loss can be a sign of underlying health issues such as hyperthyroidism, kidney disease, diabetes, or dental problems. Another factor to consider is the competition for resources; the presence of a new kitten might be causing Smokey to eat less if he feels his food resources are threatened.

Here are some steps you can take at home to help Smokey:

- Ensure Smokey has a quiet, stress-free place to eat away from the new kitten. This can help reduce competition and stress.
- Keep a close eye on how much Smokey is eating. You might want to offer him more palatable foods like wet cat food or even some cooked chicken to encourage him to eat.
- Try to maintain a consistent routine and give Smokey plenty of attention and reassurance to help reduce his stress levels.

Given the severity of the weight loss and Smokey's age, it's crucial to have him examined by a veterinarian as soon as possible. They can perform a thorough physical examination and possibly run some diagnostic tests to determine if there is an underlying medical condition that needs to be addressed. Early intervention is key to managing any potential health issues effectively.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you.
