On his neck he has a raw red spot but it doesn’t have any open wound. He can lick this area and was at a vet appointment 6 days ago. I have a photo that confirms it just showed up today. He came from a shelter two weeks ago

It sounds like your cat's raw red spot could be due to a variety of reasons, such as an allergic reaction, irritation, or perhaps a mild skin infection. Given that it appeared suddenly and your cat can reach it to lick, it's crucial to monitor the area closely to prevent further irritation.
To help manage this at home, you might want to start by preventing your cat from licking the spot. Using an Elizabethan collar, or cone, can be an effective way to stop him from reaching it. Additionally, gently cleaning the area with a mild antiseptic solution or warm water can help keep it free from dirt and bacteria.
It's also important to keep an eye on the spot for any changes, such as an increase in size, a change in color, or if it begins to ooze. Watch for any signs of discomfort or itching as well. Make sure there are no new products or materials in your home that could be causing an allergic reaction, like new bedding or cleaning products.
If you notice that the spot worsens or doesn't improve within a few days, it would be wise to consult your veterinarian. They can help rule out any underlying conditions or infections and may suggest specific treatments or medications to aid in healing.
If you have any further questions or need additional guidance, please feel free to reach out. Thank you.
