He has been stealing food and ripping open the garbage constantly and eating food even though he has kibble and has also been eating that, he mainly does it for any form of chicken, and sometimes things like corn husks or plants. He throws up a lot on our furniture when we’re not around and then when we are just all over the ground.
It sounds like your Maine Coon has been experiencing significant discomfort with the vomiting, especially since it's been happening multiple times a day for two weeks. Given his tendency to get into the garbage and eat things he shouldn't, it's quite possible that his vomiting is related to dietary indiscretion. Consuming inappropriate items like corn husks or plants can definitely upset his stomach and lead to vomiting.
Here are a few steps you can take at home to help manage the situation:
First, make sure your garbage is secured in a place where your cat can't access it. Consider using a trash can with a secure lid or placing it in a cabinet to prevent him from getting into it.
Next, closely monitor his diet. Ensure he's not getting into any human food or plants that could be harmful. Stick to his regular kibble and avoid giving him any table scraps.
It's also crucial to ensure he stays hydrated. Vomiting can lead to dehydration, so make sure he has access to fresh water at all times.
Sometimes, cats get into things out of boredom. Providing toys, scratching posts, and interactive playtime can help keep him occupied and less likely to seek out inappropriate foods.
Additionally, try feeding him smaller, more frequent meals instead of one or two large meals. This can sometimes help with vomiting.
Given the duration and frequency of his vomiting, and the fact that it's still ongoing, it's important to get him checked by a veterinarian as soon as possible. Chronic vomiting can lead to more serious issues like dehydration, weight loss, and nutrient deficiencies. Additionally, there could be underlying health issues that need to be addressed, such as gastrointestinal problems or even a blockage from something he might have ingested.
