Given the areas affected (ear, head, chest, underbelly) and the ongoing symptoms for 8 days, there are several potential causes to consider.
The redness and excessive itching could be indicative of an allergic reaction, which might be due to environmental allergens, food allergies, or contact with irritants. The bump could be a localized reaction or an insect bite, especially since flea and tick preventions are not currently being used. Scabbing and hair loss can occur as a result of the dog scratching or biting at the itchy areas.
Since your dog is already on Animax ointment, which is a combination of anti-inflammatory, antifungal, and antibacterial agents, and Cefpodoxime, an antibiotic, it seems that a bacterial infection may have been suspected or confirmed. If the symptoms persist despite the medication, it may indicate that the treatment is not fully addressing the underlying issue, or there could be a resistance to the antibiotic.
To help alleviate the symptoms and prevent further complications, ensure that the affected areas are kept clean and dry. You can gently clean the areas with a mild antiseptic solution and apply the Animax ointment as prescribed. Prevent your dog from scratching or biting the irritated skin by using an Elizabethan collar if necessary.
