My dog ate 6 raisins about an hour ago. He's not showing any signs of being poisoned. What do I do?

Raisins can indeed be toxic to dogs, and even a small amount can potentially lead to serious health issues, including kidney failure.

Vomiting, which typically occurs within 24 hours of raisin consumption, is the most typical early symptom. Additionally frequent are anorexia and diarrhea. Between 24 and 48 hours, more serious symptoms can be identified, such as kidney failure.
Pets seem to have “individual” susceptibility to inappropriate substances when it comes to digestion. Others may become poisoned with just a few raisins, while some pets appear unharmed by small amounts of the fruit. There is currently no way to predict.

To begin, you should try to induce vomiting to prevent the raisins from being absorbed. You can do this by administering a small amount of hydrogen peroxide (3% solution). The general guideline is to give 1 teaspoon per 5 pounds of body weight, but do not exceed 3 teaspoons. If your dog does not vomit within 15 minutes, you can give a second dose.

The safest thing to do is to take him to the vet before he develops symptoms. Until then, closely monitor your dog for any signs of distress or poisoning, such as vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or decreased appetite. If he has any of these symptoms, take him to the vet as soon as possible.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you.
