Chocolate ingestion in dogs is indeed a serious concern due to the presence of theobromine, which is toxic to them.
Dark chocolate contains higher levels of theobromine compared to milk chocolate, making it more dangerous. Symptoms of chocolate toxicity in dogs may include restlessness, increased heart rate, panting, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle tremors, seizures, and in severe cases, it can even lead to cardiac issues or death.
Since Carl is already experiencing diarrhea and has ingested a potentially toxic amount of chocolate, I strongly recommend taking him to the ER.
But if you can’t take him to the ER, to induce vomiting, use less than 3% hydrogen peroxide. The most important step is to get the chocolate out of his system before it is digested. However, this method may cause side effects of gastritis or esophagitis. This method is a method that can only be used within 2 hours of ingesting it.
If you have any further questions, please ask us. I sincerely hope Carl stay healthy. Thank you.
