I had messaged yesterday about Lokis issues with puking and refusing to eat.
He is still drinking a little bit of water here and there. At 10:30pm was his last time puking. An he didn’t puke again until 1:10pm but it was only a little bit of white foam. He has been having diarrhea but it’s literally just like water at this point. Overall he seems happier but still sleepy and wanting to lay down a lot.
He still hasn’t eaten since 8-9am yesterday. I was wondering if I should try some wet food and see if that would make him eat or if that would be worse.
Since today is Labor Day we are only able to go to the emergency vet and we don’t exactly have the funds for that at this time. I’m trying to find things to help here until we could possibly get into the vet on Tuesday morning
I'm sorry to hear that Loki is still experiencing issues. Given his young age and symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea, and lack of appetite, it's essential to be cautious. Here are some steps you can take at home to help him until you can get to the vet:
First, ensure Loki stays hydrated. Offer him small amounts of water frequently, and if he prefers, you can also try giving him ice chips to lick. Dehydration is a significant risk with vomiting and diarrhea, especially in young puppies.
Next, it might be helpful to withhold food for 12-24 hours to give his stomach a chance to settle. After this period, you can try offering a bland diet. Boiled chicken (without skin or bones) and plain white rice are usually gentle on the stomach.
If you decide to try wet food, make sure it's a bland variety. However, given his current symptoms, it might be better to stick with the boiled chicken and rice initially.
Keep a close eye on his condition. Note any changes in his behavior, energy levels, and symptoms. If he starts to vomit more frequently, becomes lethargic, or shows any other worrying signs, it may be necessary to seek emergency care despite the cost.
Make sure Loki has a quiet, comfortable place to rest. Limiting his activity will help him conserve energy and recover.
Given the severity of his symptoms and his young age, it's important to get him to a vet as soon as possible. Puppies can deteriorate quickly, and conditions like parvovirus, which can be very serious, need to be ruled out. If you notice any worsening of his symptoms, it would be best to seek emergency care despite the financial constraints.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you.
