He got into the trash and ate some old food. Im not sure how much he ate but hes throwing up and having diarrhea
It sounds like your chihuahua might be experiencing gastrointestinal upset from eating old food, which can lead to vomiting and diarrhea. These symptoms indicate that his body is attempting to expel something harmful.
First and foremost, ensure he has access to plenty of fresh water to prevent dehydration, which is a concern with both vomiting and diarrhea. You might also consider withholding food for 12-24 hours to give his stomach a chance to settle. After this period, you can gradually reintroduce a bland diet, such as boiled chicken and rice, in small, frequent meals.
Keep a close eye on him for any signs of worsening symptoms, such as lethargy, blood in the vomit or stool, or continued vomiting and diarrhea. These could suggest a more serious issue, like a bacterial infection or pancreatitis, which would require immediate veterinary attention.
Given the severity of his symptoms and the potential for serious complications, I strongly recommend taking him to a veterinarian as soon as possible. They can provide supportive care, such as fluids and medications, to help him recover and ensure there are no underlying issues.
