Birth control tablets contain synthetic hormones, typically estrogen and/or progestin. In male dogs, ingesting these hormones in a single dose usually doesn’t cause severe toxicity, but they can still lead to vomiting, diarrhea, excessive drooling, or lethargy.

The bigger concern is the metal packaging. If he swallowed any large or jagged pieces, they could cause irritation, blockage, or even perforation in his digestive tract. Sharp edges can scrape or puncture the esophagus, stomach, or intestines, leading to internal bleeding.

You should watch him closely for signs of abdominal pain, such as whining, restlessness, a hunched posture, or reluctance to eat. Vomiting repeatedly, especially if it becomes foamy, yellow, or bloody, is a major warning sign. Straining to defecate or not passing stool at all could indicate a blockage. If he starts drooling excessively, refuses food, or shows sudden weakness, that could mean a piece of metal has caused irritation or damage inside.

To help him pass small pieces more safely, you can feed him a bulky meal. Soft bread, plain pumpkin puree, or boiled rice mixed with his regular food can help cushion any sharp edges. Avoid giving bones or hard kibble, which might push sharp pieces against the stomach lining. If he hasn’t vomited yet and seems stable, you can try adding a small amount of plain canned pumpkin or a bit of mineral oil to his food to help lubricate passage.

For now, keep an eye on him for the next 24–48 hours. If he starts having trouble or you notice any of the concerning signs, he needs immediate help. If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to come back to us! Thank you.
