I'm sorry to hear about your dog's injury. It's completely understandable to be concerned in such situations. Here are a few steps you can take to assess and help your dog at home:

First, observe your dog's behavior closely. If you notice him limping, favoring the leg, or showing signs of pain such as whimpering or reluctance to move, these could indicate an injury. Gently examine the leg for any signs of swelling, bruising, or obvious deformities. Be very cautious and gentle during this process, as your dog might react if he's in pain.

If there is no visible injury and your dog is still putting some weight on the leg, try to keep him calm and restrict his activity for a day or two. This means avoiding running, jumping, or long walks. You can also apply a cold compress to the affected area for about 10-15 minutes a few times a day to help reduce any swelling.

However, if your dog is not putting any weight on the leg, if the leg appears deformed, or if he seems to be in significant pain, it is best to have him seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. A vet can perform a thorough examination and possibly take X-rays to determine the extent of the injury.

Keep a close eye on his behavior over the next day or two. If you notice any worsening of symptoms or if he doesn't start to improve, a visit to the vet would be necessary to ensure there's no serious damage.

If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please don't hesitate to ask. Thank you.
