Eye

Hello! I was wondering if I can get an approximate diagnosis based from this photo? I’m not sure if it’s blood from inside her eye that’s showing or not, im not even sure how she got it. Here’s a photo of her normal eye and then there’s a photo of her other injured eye

Hello,

Based on the photos you've provided, it appears that your poodle may have a condition known as hyphema, which is the presence of blood within the anterior chamber of the eye – the space between the cornea and the iris. This can occur due to various reasons, such as trauma to the eye, a disease affecting the blood vessels, a bleeding disorder, or hypertension. Since the bleeding has stopped, as you mentioned, it's possible that the injury or event causing the hyphema was a singular occurrence.

For now, it's important to ensure that your dog's environment is safe and free from hazards that could cause additional injury to the eye. Keep her activity level low to prevent any increase in blood pressure that could exacerbate the condition. You should also prevent her from rubbing or scratching at the eye, which could cause further damage or re-bleeding. An Elizabethan collar can be useful in preventing self-trauma to the eye.

While the blood may resolve on its own, it's crucial to monitor for signs of pain such as squinting, increased tear production, or a change in behavior indicating discomfort. Also, watch for any changes in the appearance of the eye, like increased redness, cloudiness, or a change in the size of the pupil, as these could indicate complications such as glaucoma.

If you notice any of the following symptoms, it would be necessary to seek immediate veterinary attention: significant swelling around the eye, the eye appears to be bulging or the dog seems to be in pain, sudden changes in vision, or if the dog becomes lethargic or refuses to eat. These could be signs of more serious complications that require prompt medical intervention.

In the meantime, maintain a calm and comfortable environment for your pet to support her recovery. Ensure she continues with her regular vaccinations and flea and tick prevention as these are important aspects of her overall health.
