It sounds like your Yorkshire Terrier has developed a red and swollen area on her back left leg, which she has been chewing at. This could be due to several reasons. She might have had an allergic reaction to something she came into contact with during a walk. Another possibility is that she was bitten or stung by an insect, which can cause localized swelling and redness. Additionally, if there is a small wound or cut, it could have become infected, leading to the symptoms you're seeing. Sometimes, small objects like thorns or splinters can also get lodged in the skin, causing irritation.

For home care, you can try a few steps to help her feel more comfortable. First, gently clean the affected area with mild soap and water to remove any potential irritants. Applying a cold compress can help reduce swelling and provide some relief from itching. To prevent her from chewing the area further, you might consider using an Elizabethan collar (cone) if you have one, or distracting her with toys and treats. You can also apply a small amount of over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream to reduce inflammation and itching, but make sure she doesn't lick it off.

Keep a close eye on the area. If the redness and swelling do not improve within a day or two, or if it gets worse, it would be best to consult a veterinarian. Persistent or worsening symptoms could indicate an infection that might require antibiotics or other treatments.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you.
