He went for a walk off our normal path and popped up with this full underbelly rash
It sounds like your dog may have encountered something during your walk that triggered an allergic reaction or irritation. The symptoms you're describing, such as excessive itching, redness, scabbing, and hair loss, can certainly be uncomfortable for your pet.
Firstly, gently clean the affected areas with a mild, hypoallergenic soap and lukewarm water. After washing, pat the area dry with a clean towel. Keeping the area clean and dry can help prevent further irritation and potential infection.
You can also apply a thin layer of an over-the-counter antibiotic ointment to the affected areas. This can help soothe the skin and prevent infection.
Since your dog is already on topical flea and tick prevention, continue to monitor for any signs of these pests. Sometimes, even with prevention, a few can slip through and cause irritation.
Additionally, ensure your dog is comfortable by providing a clean, dry, and quiet resting area. You might also consider using an Elizabethan collar (cone) to prevent your dog from scratching and further irritating the rash.
If the rash does not improve or appears to be getting worse, it is important to take him to a veterinarian as soon as possible.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you.
