Firstly, dietary factors can play a role in the smell of feces. If there have been any recent changes to your cat's diet, this could be the culprit. Cats have sensitive digestive systems, and a new food or treat can cause changes in stool odor. Additionally, if your cat has ingested something they shouldn't have, this could also cause gastrointestinal upset.

Another possibility is gastrointestinal infections or parasites. Parasites like roundworms, hookworms, or giardia can cause foul-smelling stools and discomfort, which might lead to your cat meowing more than usual. Without regular deworming or flea and tick prevention, cats can be more susceptible to these issues.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) or other digestive disorders could also be at play.

At home, ensure they have access to fresh water at all times and maintain their regular diet without introducing new foods. Observe the consistency and frequency of their stool, as well as any other changes in behavior, such as lethargy, vomiting, or a decrease in appetite.

Keep the litter box clean and try to note if the increased vocalization occurs specifically during or after using the box, as this could indicate pain or discomfort associated with elimination.

If you notice any of the following symptoms, it would be important to seek veterinary attention promptly:

- Blood in the stool or urine
- Persistent vomiting or diarrhea
- Signs of dehydration (such as dry gums, lethargy, or decreased skin elasticity)
- Sudden changes in behavior or appetite
