It sounds like your dog has developed a bump that originated from a small laceration, and given that it has been present for a few weeks and has become raised, it could potentially be a cyst, an abscess, or a benign growth. Since it hasn't resolved on its own and your dog occasionally scratches it, it might be causing some irritation or discomfort.
Here are a few steps you can take at home to help manage the situation:
Firstly, it's important to keep the area clean. You can gently clean it with a mild antiseptic solution or warm water to help prevent any infection. Be sure to avoid using harsh chemicals that could irritate the skin further.
Additionally, try to prevent your dog from scratching the area, as this could exacerbate the irritation. You might consider using an Elizabethan collar, commonly known as a cone, if she continues to scratch it.
It's also crucial to monitor the bump for any changes. Keep an eye out for any alterations in size, color, or if it starts to ooze, as these could be signs that need attention.
Lastly, avoid applying any creams or ointments without consulting a veterinarian, as some products might irritate the skin further.
Given that the bump has persisted and changed over time, it would be wise to have a veterinarian examine it to determine the exact cause and appropriate treatment. They might recommend a biopsy or other tests if necessary.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out. Thank you.
