My kitten has completely lost all fur on the top of his head. He has started to lose fur going down his neck. We have checked for mites and fleas and ringworm and he doesn’t appear to have any of these. We have not changed any cleaning chemicals or other stuff like that to cause any allergic reactions. It appears that he might be over grooming himself but I am not sure and I don’t know what is going on.

Hair loss in kittens can indeed be concerning, especially when it seems to spread. Since you've already ruled out common causes such as mites, fleas, and ringworm, and there haven't been any recent changes in cleaning products, it's possible that stress or anxiety might be leading your kitten to over-groom. Over-grooming can sometimes be a response to stress, boredom, or even an underlying skin irritation that isn't immediately visible.
To help address this, there are a few steps you can take at home:
Firstly, consider enhancing your kitten's environment with plenty of toys and activities to keep him engaged. Interactive toys, scratching posts, and climbing structures can be very effective in reducing stress and boredom.
Secondly, maintaining a consistent daily routine can provide your kitten with a sense of security. It's also important to ensure he has a quiet, comfortable space where he can retreat when needed.
Additionally, make sure your kitten is on a balanced diet appropriate for his age, as nutritional deficiencies can sometimes contribute to skin and coat issues.
Lastly, keep a close eye on the affected areas for any changes, such as redness, swelling, or further hair loss. Also, observe whether the over-grooming behavior persists or worsens.
If the hair loss continues or you notice any other symptoms like skin irritation, it would be wise to consult a veterinarian. They can perform a more thorough examination and possibly run tests to determine if there's an underlying issue that needs addressing.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you.
