Showing all the symptoms as human pink eye
It sounds like your kitten is experiencing some significant eye issues, including redness, swelling, discharge, and rubbing. These symptoms can be quite concerning, especially in such a young cat. The symptoms you're describing are indeed similar to conjunctivitis, commonly known as pink eye, which can be caused by bacterial or viral infections, irritants, or allergies.
For home care, you can gently clean the discharge from your kitten's eyes using a clean, damp cloth or gauze. Make sure to use warm water and be very gentle to avoid causing further irritation. It's important to keep the area around the eyes clean and dry.
However, given the severity and persistence of the symptoms over the past three days, it's crucial to have your kitten examined by a veterinarian as soon as possible. Eye infections can progress quickly and may lead to more serious complications if not treated promptly. The vet will be able to determine the exact cause of the symptoms and prescribe the appropriate treatment, which may include antibiotic or antiviral eye drops.
In the meantime, try to prevent your kitten from rubbing its eyes, as this can cause additional irritation or injury. You might consider using an Elizabethan collar (e-collar) to prevent scratching if the rubbing is severe.
