She is gagging and dry heaving

gagging, dry heaving, clawing at her mouth like somethings in it
I think it’s just a hair ball, but want to make sure before I spend money at the vet

Thank you for connecting with us. First of all, palpate your cat's throat to check whether you can feel anything. Also, use a phone torch and check inside the mouth as well. If nothing is found but she continues to show such behavior, you need to make an appointment with a vet as URI(upper respiratory infection) is suspected. Although mild URIs are self-limiting, some severe or lasting cases require medical intervention. Till you bring her to a vet, hydration is important. You may also use a humidifier and put her in a steam bath multiple times.

If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to come back to us!

Thank you.
