My cat ingested flea medicine and I think had a seizure and is very shaky and twitchy and during what I believe to be a seizure he pierced his tongue all the way through
What should I do
Thank you for using our service. This is a case that requires an appointment with a vet (not ER).
The cause of the seizure is not clear but is related to the central nervous system and is primarily idiopathic or inherited. Liver disease, kidney failure, brain tumor, trauma, or toxin also can lead your pet to seizures. And it will be helpful for diagnosis if you fill out information such as when he usually have seizure, the time, cycle, or behavior, and take a video of seiaure.
The seizure is not painful to a pet, but status epileptics, characterized by a seizure that lasts more than five minutes, is a difficult and life-threatening situation. The secondary seizure from other than neurological problems may be able to be addressed if we can find the primary disease. However, most seizure from neurological reason is hard to cure but need to be controlled under a vet’s supervision. Anticonvulsant medication is helpful to control your pet’s seizure, but once it is started, it must be given for life.
I hope this information is helpful for you and your pet is getting better.
