Attila is a 2 year old bearded dragon who I have strong reason to believe may be hermaphroditic. I have done the flashlight test on him and he has a prominent hemepaenis and prominent femoral pores, yet he has laid an egg recently. He has been constipated a couple times this month, but he receives regular warm baths, and I always ensure that the water level is no more than an inch. I noticed yesterday that he has some yellow discoloration inside of his ears, and I am not sure if he has an infection or something is wrong or if he is just shedding. I am concerned he may have an ear infection.
It sounds like Attila might be dealing with an ear infection, especially given the yellow discoloration inside his ears. Ear infections in reptiles can stem from various causes, such as bacterial or fungal infections, mites, or even environmental issues.
Considering Attila's symptoms of lethargy, loss of appetite, and constipation, it's important to address these concerns promptly. Here are a few steps you can take at home:
First, ensure that Attila's habitat is clean and free from excess humidity, as this can promote infections. Regularly clean his enclosure and provide fresh water. Additionally, continue giving him warm baths, as this can help with constipation. Make sure the water is shallow and warm, not hot.
It's also crucial to keep him hydrated. If he's not drinking on his own, you can offer water through a syringe. To encourage eating, offer a variety of fresh vegetables and fruits. Sometimes, a change in diet can stimulate his appetite.
For his ears, you can gently clean the outer part with a damp cotton ball, but avoid inserting anything into his ear canal.
However, given the combination of symptoms and the possibility of an ear infection, it's essential to have him seen by a veterinarian experienced with reptiles. They can accurately diagnose the issue and provide the necessary treatment, which may include antibiotics or antifungal medications.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you.
