Tank started hacking and it’s not all the time but has me worried. I have seen it could be kennel cough but I’m not sure

Hearing your young puppy, like Tank, hacking or coughing can certainly be concerning, but it's important to remember that it isn't always a sign of something serious. One common cause of coughing in dogs, particularly if they've been around other dogs recently, is kennel cough. This is a contagious respiratory disease that often presents as a dry, hacking cough.
There are other possible reasons for coughing in puppies that you should be aware of:
- **Irritants or Allergies:** Things like dust, smoke, or strong odors can irritate a puppy's throat, leading to coughing.
- **Foreign Objects:** Puppies are naturally curious and might accidentally inhale small objects, which can cause them to cough.
- **Infections:** Besides kennel cough, other respiratory infections can also result in coughing.
For home care, it's important to keep Tank in a clean environment, free from smoke or strong odors. Ensure he stays hydrated and keep an eye on his activity levels. If his coughing is mild and infrequent, you might choose to monitor him for a few more days to see if there's any improvement.
However, if Tank's coughing becomes more frequent or severe, or if you notice other symptoms such as lethargy, loss of appetite, or difficulty breathing, it would be advisable to consult a veterinarian. They can provide a proper diagnosis and necessary treatment.
