I think my budgie is constipated. It look like she’s been trying to poop for a while now and I see a build up of poop from its butt and it’s all hard now. Should I pull it out?

It sounds like your budgie might be experiencing some constipation, which can occur due to various reasons such as dehydration or dietary issues. It's important to approach this situation with care. Here are a few steps you can take at home to help your budgie:

Firstly, ensure that your budgie always has access to fresh water. You might also consider offering water-rich foods like small pieces of cucumber or lettuce to help increase their fluid intake.

Next, take a look at your budgie's diet. A diet that's too high in seeds can sometimes lead to constipation, so it might be beneficial to gradually introduce some fruits and vegetables to their meals to ensure a balanced diet.

Additionally, increasing the humidity in the room can sometimes be helpful. You can achieve this by placing a bowl of water near the cage or using a humidifier.

Offering your budgie a shallow, warm bath can also be beneficial. The warmth can help relax their muscles and potentially ease the passage of stool.

However, it's important to avoid pulling out any hardened stool yourself, as this can cause injury or stress to your budgie.

If these steps don't seem to help and your budgie continues to have difficulty, or if you notice any other concerning symptoms like lethargy or loss of appetite, it would be wise to consult a veterinarian for further advice.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any more questions or need further assistance. Thank you.

I don’t have a vet near me, and she’s plucking out the feathers near that area now.

Feather plucking around the vent area in your budgie can indeed be a sign of discomfort or irritation, possibly linked to constipation.

To help your budgie, it’s important to ensure she is in a calm and stress-free environment. Try to keep her cage in a quiet area, away from loud noises or disturbances, as stress can worsen feather plucking.

You might also consider gently cleaning the area around her vent with a damp, warm cloth to remove any dried feces. Be very gentle during this process to avoid causing any injury or additional stress.
