I'm sorry to hear about your puppy's injury. Swelling after a bite can indeed indicate infection or inflammation, so it's crucial to keep a close eye on the wound. Let me guide you through some steps you can take to care for your puppy:
Firstly, gently clean the wound using a mild antiseptic solution. This helps prevent infection, but be sure to avoid using hydrogen peroxide or alcohol, as they can actually delay the healing process.
Next, keep an eye out for any signs of infection. If you notice redness, increased swelling, warmth, or discharge, these could be indicators that the wound is infected.
Applying a cold compress can also be beneficial in reducing swelling. Simply wrap some ice in a cloth and gently apply it to the swollen area for short periods.
Most importantly, given that it's a bite wound and there's swelling, it's crucial to have a veterinarian examine your puppy. They might prescribe antibiotics or other treatments to prevent any complications.
While the swelling may decrease as the wound heals, it's essential to ensure there's no infection or other issues. Please make sure to see a vet as soon as possible to ensure your puppy receives the appropriate care.
If you have any further questions, feel free to ask. Thank you.
